Top 10 Free Antivirus Software for Windows

AAfter talking about premium antivirus software, now it’s time to talk about their free counterparts. You might know many of these antivirus software, but here is the list of best free antiviruses. Before we start, remember that these versions do not offer the same protection as their paid versions. They don’t have all the features of a full paid antivirus and do not do as good of a job, so I won’t compare them with those versions, but from a free antivirus perspective. If you like an antivirus and the protection it gives, support the developers and buy the product.

1. Avast! Free Antivirus

Meeting again with Avast!, but now, in spotlight is the Free Avast! Antivirus. This is, in my opinion, the best free antivirus available. In the free version, all you have to do is register (for free) once a year and you get top notch protection on your computer, emails, downloads and IMs. It has a powerful heuristics engine that allows it to find almost every virus around. The experience gathered over the years (since 1988) by its developers shows really well in Avast!

2. Panda Cloud Antivirus

I must admit that Panda antivirus does not differentiate itself from other free antivirus software in any way when it comes to protection. It offers the same level of detection from viruses, trojan, spyware, adware, worms and malware and its features are not that specific. The thing that made Panda Cloud Antivirus the second position in my list is the fact that it is, as the name suggests, Cloud based. What that means, is that when you scan your computer, it doesn’t use resources from your computer, but it operates in the cloud, keeping your computer working as normal.

3. Microsoft Security Essentials

I know Microsoft is new to the internet safety game, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t develop a great antivirus. Microsoft Security Essentials is a great antivirus, it’s incredible easy to use and it’s absolutely free! It updates automatically and, being produces by Microsoft, it actively interacts with Windows and it’s perfectly integrated in the operating system.

4. Avira AntiVir Personal Edition

Avira is another example of a really good free antivirus program that has very much to offer. Excellent protection, user friendly and it consumes next to nothing from your resources. I’ve used it for some time and must say I’m really happy with the results. It detects most threats and it works in silence in the background. It’s perfect for laptops and netbooks, but also for your own personal computer.

5. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

AVG is again on our list of best antivirus programs, this time, the free version. This antivirus works great and its top notch detection stats are impressive. If you are looking for a really good free antivirus, with cool features, like link scanner and email scanner, than you should definitely try AVG Anti-Virus, it’s one of the best.

6. Comodo Antivirus

Comodo Antivirus is a fairly good antivirus program. After making all the steps in installing it (it requires some extra steps from your usual antivirus), I saw a nice looking antivirus with a detection rate of up to 90% and a resolving percentage of 60%, but I recommend to use in parallel with another antivirus that provides morecleaning power. Its detection engine is really good, but you might think of getting another software if you want to clean your infected files.. Those numbers are what makes Comodo come on our list of best free antivirus programs.

7. Immunet Protect FREE

This is a fairly good antivirus, much like Panda Cloud Antivirus, it works in the cloud, keeping your computer working free. It offers really good protection againstbots, worms, viruses, trojans, keyloggers, and spyware, so a full protection. This was a surprise, but Immunet is a really good antivirus and it has my thumbs up and recommendation for anyone who wants to try it.

8. PC Tools AntiVirus Free

PC Tools AntiVirus is one of the most basic antivirus programs you will find. It has some features, but don’t get excited. I featured it in this list because it is still better than other free antivirus software, but not by much. If you are not an avid internet browser, and more of the type that only sends emails, it will get the job done, but any more than that, I recommend something stronger.

9. Malwarebytes

Malwarebytes is 9th on our list because it doesn’t run in background, so no real time protection and it cannot protect you in real time. Technically, it is not an antivirus. But, the reason it is on our list is because when you run into a problem with malware or worms, trojans and such and your top of the line antivirus can’t handle it, all you have to do is run Malwarebytes and the problem is solved. This little program can handle anything you throw at it. I recommend keeping it on a USB flash drive and when your computer crashes, try giving it a scan in safe mode with this program, it might just save you from a “format C:/”.

10. ClamWin Free Antivirus

ClamWin Free Antivirus is not the best free antivirus. Although you may know it from the Linux version (CalmAV), this is more a basic tool that you use to scan your computer. The reason ClamWin is at the bottom of the list are: no real time protection, lack of features and a little tricky to use. But, on the other side, it does make a really good detecting tool and it doesn’t use many resources.
Keep in mind, the system I tested all these antivirus programs is an Intel i5 750@ 3.5 GHz with 4 GB of DDR3 Memory. Try to find out if these powerful antivirus programs will work well on your systems, as some require lots of horsepower.
There you go, top best antivirus software around. But keep in mind, there is another antivirus that is better than all of those put together! Do not click on suspicious ads or links, do not open spam mail or add in your IM list bots or people who you don’t know. And most important of all, update your antivirus on a regular basis and don’t think just because you have an antivirus software installed you’re protected and you can do whatever you want on the web, be on the guard and help your antivirus, your in this together!

10 Reasons Why People Unsubscribe from Your Blog

How do you feel, if one of your blog reader says “let me unsubscribe from your blog”. You would frustrate, isn’t it? Even, I would feel the same. But, I feel pleased as I didn’t experience this situation before and I am blessed with thousands of subscribers for my blogs.
Having good number of blog subscribers is a critical part in blog’s growth and almost every blogger is working hard for it. Also, most of the bloggers are focussing to get the new subscribers and they just ignore the various reasons why some people unsubscribe from their blog. Losing few subscribers occasionally isn’t a big deal, but if they find frequent shedding of subscribers, then it is the right time to examine the condition of their blog and determine the reasons for it.
unsubscribe-from-blog
Are you a blogger who struggling a lot in gaining subscribers and losing the existing followers? Then I would say that there might be some reasons why they’ve unsubscribed from your blog. Let me explain the reasons in detail now.

1. Low quality content

I know that you might be aware of this blogging proverb “Content is the king”. Yes, of course! If you continue to contribute the blog post with trivial content and grammatical mistakes, then it would make your followers to unsubscribe from your bog. So, do concentrate more in contributing the high-quality blog posts with worthy information.

 2. Too frequent/infrequent posts

Sometimes your subscribers get overwhelmed if they hear you more than one time a day and so it is good to send one blog post daily. Likewise, if your blog posts reach them infrequently, then they would unable to remember your blog and finally unsubscribe. So, make a plan to maintain a post consistency and stick to it.

 3. Lack of focusing

People do subscribe your blog to read about a specific subject matter and to get solution for the queries related to that matter. But you’re not focusing that particular subject, writing something which is not needed to them, and so they unsubscribe from your blog. In simple words, if you set expectations to provide a certain type of information to your followers and if you failed to deliver it, then they might choose the unsubscribe option.

 4. Uniqueness is lost

You have to motivate your subscribers through your uniqueness. Do read variety of blogs and websites to get escape from writer’s block. Why am I speaking about writer’s block here? Because this would push you to copy others style and you might lose your uniqueness. The more you read, the more different ways you could write.

 5. No action on Holidays

I agree that everyone might go for holidays, further studies, personal works etc. So, if you’ve planned to go for long breaks, you should intimate this in prior to your subscribers (at least through an email or at the end of the current blog post). If you not do so, then you would certainly lose your subscribers.

 6. Personal touch is missing

I used to see in most of the blogs, the blog posts were written like legal documents. You know, a blog is like a diary and it differs from a static website. So, instead of writing like documents, say something funny or share your previous experience to lighten the readers. If you fail to add your personal touch, then your followers might unsubscribe from your blog.

 7. Design issues

I think that the design issues related to your blog is the major reason for the unsubscribing activity of the people. Having clutter blog design, difficult in navigation and frequent template changes would definitely annoy your supporters and impulse them to unsubscribe from your blog.

8. More guest posts

Why do people subscribe to your blog? They want to hear you! But if you are publishing more no. of guest posts instead of writing on your own, they might forget your blog by unsubscribing it.

 9. Absence of comments

I would say that a blog without comments reveals that it has no readers. Also, it is clearly understood that you’re not engaging and encouraging the visitors to leave their thoughts. Moreover, if you disable the comment section then it says that you’re not interested in conversing with your readers. Anyway, the absence of comments would make your subscribers to unfollow your blog.

 10. No longer needed

Sometimes, changes are happening for no reasons. Yeah, the interest of your followers might be changed or they’ve progressed to a high level. So they no longer have a need for your blog posts and simply unsubscribed your blog.

Get notified when people unsubscribe your blog

To get notified when people unsubscribe to your blog, I would suggest you to enable a Google Feedburner feature associated to it.
Go to feedburner.google.com, then choose your blog.
Now click Publicize > Email subscription > Subscription management.
If you scroll down the page further in Subscription management, you’ll see an option “send me an email whenever people unsubscribe”. Tick that option and Click “Save”. So, now you’ll receive email when your subscribers unsubscribe to your blog.

Conclusion:

Getting new subscribers and losing few in a month is not a big issue. You may email these unsubscribers and ask them to come back, request their feedback and enquire the reason for unsubscribing. Also, have it in mind that they might unsubscribe your blog just to clear up their email account. This doesn’t mean that wouldn’t visit/subscribe your blog again and don’t take it personally.
Think positive, maintain consistency and stay focussed to keep your subscribers with you. These are my judgments on why people unsubscribing from your blog. What do you think? Let me know your opinions through comments.

5 Easy Ways to Extend Laptop’s Battery Life

Today, there are more laptops sold in PC market as compared to desktops. So, there must be some advantages over traditional PCs. One of them is the mobility of laptop computers. It’s obvious that we like light and thin laptops but without battery it is no more than a paperweight. Almost every laptop on average has a battery life of about 3-4 hours. So what if you could do something to increase your laptop’s battery life a bit more – hopefully a few extra hours.
Here’s a guide for you which will focus on how to increase battery life of Laptop PCs.

Close Background Running Applications

In simple terms, anything your laptop does requires power. Therefore, when your laptop is running on battery you should shut down application that you aren’t using instead of minimizing it to Windows taskbar.
This important to extend laptop’s battery life because all these add to the CPU load and consumes battery power.

Turn Down Display Brightness

Extend laptop battery life by hours
Laptop’s screen with lager display (14-inch to 18-inch) is the single component that consumes a lot of battery power. To avoid this battery loss you can lower down screen brightness to the dimmest setting you can tolerate.
However, you might need to increase brightness depending on where you are. For example, if you’re sitting under direct sunlight you’ll have to increase screen brightness.

Turn off Bluetooth and Wireless Connections

You need laptop’s Bluetooth and wireless connection to send and receive file or to connection with people around the world. But when you aren’t using these connections turn them off.
Because, both Bluetooth and WiFi connections (3G, 4G Broadband) drains a portion of battery juice by sending and receiving wireless signal data.

Setup & Optimize Power Option

The Windows operating system allows you to setup and optimize battery power supply. In control panel find power option and set it up as per your requirement.
There are two basic and three additional power plans which can help you maximize your laptop computer’s performance or conserve energy.

Use Hibernate Option Over Standby

Although in standby mode your laptop recovers your data quickly as it is stored in RAM. It drains out battery while running on low power mode, but still on.
On the other hand, hibernating your laptop completely shut it down and doesn’t use any power. In this mode your data is saved to your hard disk and not RAM. So, this option is much safer but slows down shut down and resumes.

By following these methods you can easily increase your laptop’s battery life by hours in some case. Even when not extending battery life these tweaks helps  you improve system performance.
